GHGs (CO2, CH4, and N2O) have increased steadily during the past century.

Soil organic matter (SOM) contains a large reservoir of sources for GHGs.

Human-enhanced erosion through cultivation and land clearing is ubiquitous and increasing.

Erosion accelerates SOM decomposition.

SOM decomposition releases CO2, CH4, and N2O.

Accelerated erosion is a source of GHGs by enhancing SOM decomposition.
