IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Society of Wetland Scientists has certified three new Scientists from RBF Consulting, a Company of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), bringing  Baker’s Professional Wetland Scientists (PWS) leadership team to seven members.

Richard Beck, Chris Johnson and Wesley Salter recently received their PWS, joining 47 other Professional Wetland Scientists in California.  In addition, Baker’s Heath Caldwell in North Carolina, Kenneth Corti and Angela Schreffler in Pennsylvania, and Rebecca Lynne in New Jersey serve as Professional Wetland Scientists for Baker’s clients across the U.S.  This experience leads to a greater continuity of wetland delineation, permitting and wetland mitigation services and provides clients with the credibility and experience required for an often subjective and dynamic environmental discipline.

“Having this team of Professional Wetland Scientists will enhance our professional service and expertise for high level clients like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of Defense, our States and many of our private development clients,” indicated Scott Taylor, senior vice president and Surface Water Practice Leader for RBF. “Each step we take with science and research as a cornerstone of our engineering and sustainability practices is a step of progress toward sustaining the future.”

Individuals certified as Professional Wetland Scientists must have a Bachelor Degree or higher with course work in biological sciences, physical sciences, quantitative sciences and specialized wetland course work such as wetland hydrology and restoration. Five years of professional experience in research or laboratory observations, preparation of publications for recognized journals, leading wetlands projects or directing research is required as well as current technical wetland knowledge.

The Society of Wetland Scientists Professional Certification Program (SWSPCP) is the only widely available wetland scientist certification program. SWSPCP works to meet the needs of professional ecologists, hydrologists, soil scientists, educators, agency professionals, consultants, and others who practice wetland science. This Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) Program is aimed at serving the public's need to identify qualified individuals to assess and manage the Nation's wetland resources.
