Charlevoix, MI — Redi-Rock International is pleased to announce the winners of the annual Rocky Awards for projects completed in 2012! The Rocky Awards are an annual honoring of the best Redi-Rock walls built in the categories of Residential, Freestanding, Water Application, and the People’s Choice Award which was chosen by the general public in an online vote. More than 120 Redi-Rock manufacturers across North America and Europe competed for these prestigious awards which were presented at the Redi-Rock Annual Producer Meeting in Florida last week.

Signature Stone of Greeley, CO received Residential Wall of the Year for the Ledgestone texture gravity walls installed at this 21,000 sq. ft. home. In early 2012, the owners of the home needed to replace several failed small block MSE walls along the driveway that provided primary access to the house. The owner and engineer chose Redi-Rock because, “The Redi-Rock wall provided an answer that allowed us to minimize the required excavation work at a fraction of the cost of other wall solutions.  As a bonus, it looks outstanding,” the owner said.

Grand Rapids Gravel of Grand Rapids, MI was honored with Freestanding Wall of the Year for the outstanding freestanding walls they provided for the Lubbers Stadium Renovation at Grand Valley State University. The renovation included dropping the elevation of the football field by 6 ft., which required a total of 9,200 sq. ft. of Redi-Rock retaining and freestanding walls.

Redi-Wall based in Brighton, MI was awarded Water Application Wall of the Year for a the Caseville Resort & Marina project, which included replacing a failing dry-cast retaining wall with a 26.5 ft. tall Redi-Rock Cobblestone gravity wall. Construction of this project was extremely complicated because houses were located directly above the failing wall, and the new Redi-Rock wall needed to be constructed from an 8 ft. wide boardwalk below the new wall. The ability to build the new wall without geogrid made this project possible.

Paxton Precast of Dalmatia, PA was awarded the People’s Choice Rocky Award for a stunning series of walls at the Sunbury Riverfront. This project included 17,000 sq. ft. of Redi-Rock walls to help stabilize the banks of the Susquehanna River, halt further erosion, and prevent flooding in the nearby downtown area. The walls also helped create a riverfront park. “There’s no maintenance, it’s very durable, and when it goes through a flood like it did—it sets the standard for being a great solution,” said Sunbury City Councilman Jim Eister.
