We’re glad that the Midwest escaped more serious damage from flooding over the last few weeks, but it will always be raining somewhere, and this week nearly the entire East Coast of the US is nervously watching the weather.
Rains two weeks ago that saturated the ground has increased the risk of flooding in many areas, as far north as Maine down to the Carolinas. Some areas such as Boston and New York are approaching record rainfall levels for the month of March.
Rhode Island’s Pawtuxet River was predicted to reach flood stage on Monday, and heavy flooding was expected by Tuesday. Coastal flooding and erosion was feared on Long Island, and sand was being trucked in on Monday as a precaution. The governor declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts on Monday because of flooding.
