StormCon: August 21 - 25

By: Kaspersen, Janice Comments

StormCon 2011 will take place in less than two months: August 21 – 25 in Anaheim, California. The conference includes seven tracks this year—including an Erosion & Sediment Control track—and several preconference classes and certification courses and exams.

Deadlines for Certification Exams
If you are planning to take one of the professional certification exams—for the Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control or the Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality, for example—you need to apply to the organization that administers the exam ahead of time; application deadlines for a few of these exams are coming up as soon as July 6. Please see the StormCon site, www.StormCon.com, for details. Note, however, that you do not need prior approval to attend an exam review session without taking the exam itself.

EPA Presentation
We’re happy to announce that the popular EPA session will return this year. On Wednesday, August 24, at 2:00 p.m., Jeremy Bauer, an environmental scientist with EPA in Washington, DC, will present “Overview of EPA Stormwater Rulemaking Proposal.” EPA is proposing modifications to requirements for stormwater discharges under the NPDES permit program; this presentation will outline some of the provisions of the proposal, and audience members may ask questions afterward. See more details on the presentation here.

Moderating StormCon Sessions
We are also looking for moderators for a number of the conference sessions. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, August 23, 24, and 25, concurrent 60-minute and 90-minute sessions will take place within the seven conference tracks. (The 60-minute sessions include two presentations and the 90-minute sessions have three presentations.) As a session moderator, you would welcome attendees, introduce the presenters, and help the presenters keep track of the time. It’s a chance to participate in the program and hear the questions and feedback from audience members. We’re grateful to all the people who have helped us out in the past and to those who’ve already signed up this year. You can take a look at the sessions and brief descriptions of each presentation here. If you’re interested in being a moderator or want to sign up for a specific session, email me at janice@forester.net.

A Conference Agenda for Your Phone
Scott Nania, whom many of you know from the conference, has put together a version of the StormCon agenda that you can view on a mobile device like an iPhone. You can access the mobile agenda here, or download a pdf of the printed conference program here.

Early Bird Registration
Finally, discounted Early Bird registrations are available until Monday, August 1. See www.StormCon.com for details and to register online.
